In order to meet the needs of our students, the District will be reconfiguring the grade levels on our elementary campuses to reduce the number of grade-level transitions students experience during their early years of schooling. This decision was based on research supporting the need to reduce grade level transitions. This will also allow teachers to work together more to inform their instruction and increase opportunities to better meet the needs of our students. Other benefits include a better process to ensure curriculum alignment and an increase in opportunities for parental involvement.
At the March 29, 2017, public meeting of the Board of Education, trustees passed a motion to transition schools in Beeville ISD to a new grade configuration starting in August of 2017. The first phase of this plan will result in the following changes:
Thomas Jefferson Intermediate School will remain Grades 5 and 6; Moreno Junior High school will remain Grades 7 and 8. HMD Early Childhood Center and AC Jones High School also remain in their current grade configurations.
District personnel is working with campus leadership to ensure a smooth transition for our students and staff. More information is forthcoming but take a moment to click on the link below to read the letter from Dr. Puig, Superintendent for more details.
